Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register for a competition?
Most competitions require school-based registration through a teacher or coordinator. Talk to your math teacher about which competitions your school participates in. If your school doesn't participate, you can often encourage them to register or look for competitions that allow individual registration.
What if I've never competed before?
Everyone starts somewhere! Begin with competitions designed for your grade level. MOEMS and Noetic Learning are great starting points for elementary students, while MATHCOUNTS and AMC 8 are excellent for middle schoolers. Practice with past problems and don't worry about results—focus on learning and having fun!
How much time should I spend preparing?
This varies by competition and your goals. For beginners, 30-60 minutes of practice 2-3 times per week is a good start. As you get more serious, you might increase to daily practice. The key is consistency—regular practice is more effective than cramming before the competition.
Are competitions only for "math geniuses"?
Absolutely not! Math competitions are for anyone who enjoys problem-solving and wants to challenge themselves. You don't need to be the top student in your class. Many successful competitors started as average students who developed their skills through practice and persistence.
What topics should I focus on?
Focus on: Algebra (equations, expressions), Geometry (shapes, area, perimeter), Number Theory (primes, factors, divisibility), Counting & Probability, and Problem-Solving Strategies. Each competition card above lists specific preparation topics. Use our practice platform to strengthen these areas!
Can I participate in multiple competitions?
Yes! Many students participate in multiple competitions throughout the year. This gives you more practice and experience. Just be mindful of your schedule and don't overcommit—quality preparation is better than spreading yourself too thin.
